How to Care for and Cultivate Sedum commixtum

Leaf Characteristics:

The leaves are small, chubby, and incredibly cute. When grown in the right conditions during autumn or winter, the entire plant will turn pink, making it very beautiful.

Growing Environment:

Sedum commixtum grows best at temperatures between 15-25°C. It thrives in a warm, dry environment and grows vigorously within this temperature range. It can tolerate temperatures from 5°C to 35°C, so as long as the environment stays within this range, the plant will survive normally.

Sunlight:

Sedum commixtum prefers sunlight. If possible, its best to grow it outdoors, as this ensures even and adequate exposure to light, which makes the leaves fuller and more compact, and the color will be more vibrant. Outdoor care also benefits the plant with day-night temperature differences, which help it enter its optimal state more quickly. The leaves will show blue, red, and purple hues, making the plant even more attractive. However, during summer, it should be moved to a shaded area indoors to avoid direct sunlight, which could scorch the plant and even cause it to dry out.

Repotting:

Sedum commixtum is a succulent with long stems, so it doesnt need frequent repotting. Typically, repotting can be done every 2-3 years during the growing season. Its important to use a tall pot for planting.

Watering:

Sedum commixtum is quite drought-tolerant, but during the growing seasons (spring and autumn), it needs sufficient moisture to encourage side branch growth and fuller leaves. Water thoroughly when the soil is half-dry, about once every 5-7 days. During the hot summer months, Sedum commixtum enters a dormant phase, reducing its absorption capacity. Watering should be reduced, and only small amounts should be given when the soil is completely dry, typically once every two weeks. In winter, watering should be minimal as Sedum commixtum is native to tropical regions and is sensitive to the cold. Keep the soil dry and water only once a month. If the indoor temperature drops below 3°C, stop watering until the weather warms up.

Soil:

Caring for Sedum commixtum is not difficult, but for it to thrive and overflow in its pot, the soil is key. Start with fertile, loose peat soil to encourage side branch growth. Then add some granular akadama soil, perlite, and coal slag. The granular soil is very breathable and well-drained, which is beneficial for the plant's roots. After mixing the soil, you can repot the plant. Before planting, sprinkle some organic base fertilizer to maintain soil fertility, which will naturally promote faster growth.

Fertilization:

Excessive nitrogen fertilizer can cause Sedum commixtum to stretch. Therefore, its important to control fertilization during the growing season, especially avoiding too much nitrogen. Use fertilizer specifically for succulents, and dilute it before applying to reduce the concentration, preventing fertilizer burn.
